Musical Arts

The musical arts are probably the most popular of the Arts For All classes. The musical arts include instruments and voice, playing or singing individually or as part of a group.  The musical arts can expand a person in innumerable ways.  Early music training helps develop brain areas involved in language and reasoning. Through music study, students learn the value of sustained effort to achieve excellence and the rewards of hard work. Participation in music can last and be enjoyed throughout a lifetime.

Participating in the musical arts also encourages self-expression and leads to self-esteem as a by-product, as music performance teaches people to conquer fear and take risks. Teamwork is also an important skill acquired when making music with others. Performing music uses both sides of your brain, the mechanical part and the interpretive, expressive, and creative part.  AFA offers a number of musical experiences to students such as

  • Voice
  • Sing for Fun (for young children)
  • Drums
  • Guitar
  • Piano
  • Violin
  • Music Moves (piano for young children)
  • Simply Music

Many of these classes offer beginning and intermediate levels.
