Kara McIntire
Arts for All has cello classes on the roster of upcoming classes. If you're wondering who you should thank for this new development, look no further than instructor Kara McIntire. She plays cello for the Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra and now she's adding Cello Instructor to her already-impressive list of accomplishments.
A piano enthusiast since age 6, she began playing the cello when she was 11. "I played violin in grade school before cello and switched after two years," says Kara. She eventually wound up getting a degree in music and now teaches piano, violin and cello.
She's busy with other musical pursuits as well. "I direct a handbell choir at a church and teach preschool music," she says. When she isn't knee-deep in music lessons, she enjoys knitting and spending time with her friends and family.
When Kara teaches her students, she teaches more than just the basics of one instrument. "I like teaching for AFA because I have the freedom to teach how I want and in a way that I know my students will understand and learn to love music," says Kara. "I want my students to learn music, not just the instrument I'm teaching, but music in general. I want them to have a good understanding of musical concepts so they can have an easier transition into learning other instruments or singing in choir or whatever they choose."
She sees a bright future for Arts for All. "I would love to see AFA grow and reach more families around Omaha. I would also like to see the string program expand even more- especially now with cello classes. Maybe eventually we could have viola and we could start an AFA orchestra!"
